CDNetworks Opens China’s Internet Market to Global Brands and Websites

New CDNetworks ‘China Acceleration’ Solution Speeds Dynamic Websites and Applications Targeted at China’s Internet Users

San Jose, Calif. – CDNetworks, the full-service global content delivery network, today announced the general availability of its China Acceleration solution for European and U.S.-based customers to extend their websites and Web applications into mainland China. The announcement underscores CDNetworks’ leadership position as the only global content delivery network that provides its own local strategic business support and infrastructure for dynamic website and application acceleration within China.

While China’s Internet market is the world’s largest, foreign companies face substantial business and technological challenges as they seek to tap into this rapidly growing market by enabling superior performance of web applications into China.  “Many well-known and growing brands do not have the appropriate local resources to manage China’s cumbersome licensing processes,” said Jeff Kim, CDNetworks’ Vice President of Global Products and Marketing.  “At the same time, serving dynamic websites from outside of China is not an option. Internet latency between China and other countries slows applications and website pages to unacceptable levels for China’s Internet users.”

According to the June 2010 Gartner, Inc. research report entitled How to Improve Application Performance on China’s Internet by Gartner analysts Vincent Fu, Joe Skorupa and Lydia Leong, “The latency from China to most Asian countries is usually within 200 milliseconds, which can impact on the performance of browser-based applications.”  For this reason, even Asia-based companies as close to China as Korea and Japan have chosen to utilize the CDNetworks China Acceleration solution. These include hundreds of brand-name companies and extremely high-traffic websites, such as EBay Korea, GourmetNavi, Hakuhodo, Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors, Korea Tourism organization, NHN’s Naver and Hangame, and Sony.

The Gartner, Inc. report further points out that “the latency ranges from 200 to 350 milliseconds from China to the U.S. and 400 milliseconds to 600 milliseconds between China and Europe, which severely affects the performance of most browser-based applications.”  Robert Gribnau, CDNetworks’ Vice President of Sales in EMEA, explained, “U.S.- and Europe-based customers have improved website and application performance by 300-1,000% using CDNetworks’ China Acceleration solution. The combination of superior performance and CDNetworks’ local resources within China makes China Acceleration a must-have for Western companies serious about their China strategy.”
